The market of subscription video streaming services is about to become a little more crowded: Legendary Entertainment says today that it will launch a platform, called Alpha, “later in 2016” using content from its pop culture production services Nerdistand Geek & Sundry.  Pricing is still being set, but could go as high as $7 a month. It will be available on desktop computers as well as iOS and “popular [streaming] devices.”

Nerdist CEO Chris Hardwick says that the partners want it to “feel like a community clubhouse. We want it to be special and have real, justifiable value for members, e.g., live event access, merch, IRL meet-ups and bonus podcasts to name a few things. Alpha is about partnering people we love to create a safe space for fandom and the people who are passionate about it.”
