LESS THAN TWO WEEKS! STAR WARS FANDOM AWAKENS, AND THE LINEUP BEGINS!

Just like clockwork, Star Wars fans have lined up early to be first in line to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It’s a tradition that goes back to earlier films. Fans lined up for months to see Phantom Menace. This being winter, and with the proliferation of online ticketing and reserve seating, one has to ask themselves, Why?

According to the New York Times article: “At night you freeze and in the daytime you cook, but you come for the camaraderie and the chance to be a part of cinematic history,” said Erik Murillo, who was sitting in a lawn chair near two large plastic crates packed with supplies (clothes, food, a tent). “Besides, there are traditions to be upheld.”

In Hollywood, at the famed Chinese Theatre, there’s a website to register for a place in line. The whole thing is raising money for charity. According to the site, there’s a definite reason why fans want to do this: “We want to recreate the classic line experience of legions of fans, lined up for days, gathering in force to celebrate the next piece of cinematic history. We can’t wait to capture lightning in a bottle again on the streets of Hollywood, and we are delighted to support the Starlight Children’s Foundation once more! The line runs from Noon on December 5, 2015 through showtime on Thursday, December 17, 2015. Hours spent in line will no longer be logged beginning at 6am on December 17th. However, fun line festivities will continue throughout the entire last day leading up to the theatre letting us in for the 7pm showing on December 17.” The group even has cool t-shirts (seen in gallery below).

More power (Force) to them! I’ve got my December 17 reserve-seating tickets. I guess in contrast, my viewing experience feels almost…too easy. Like I didn’t earn it. Anyone else lining up early?
