Nothing engenders more fervor and causes more near-stampedes than Comic-Con exclusives. Love ’em or hate ’em, just make sure to get out of the way if you’re standing between the opening of the doors and an exclusive, otherwise be prepared to be be trampled…and then watch as eBay explodes with “exclusives” but at five times the price.
Actually, I LOVE the exclusives, but my one complaint about some of these so-called “exclusives” is that many of them are available online during, after, or….(most irritating)….some are online–and sold out!–even before Comic Con starts! How is that an exclusive? I’ve heard some retailers say it’s because they want to be able to offer Comic-Con exclusives even to the non-attenders….Okay, do that, but just don’t call it a stinkin’ exclusive.
In my never-to-be-humble opinion, it’s not an exclusive UNLESS you’ve lined up, put on your racing shoes, and elbowed some dude in the gut as you push yourself through a chaotic line. THAT’s an exclusive. You have to earn it. (Unless, of course, you bought it online and are simply picking up at the booth — that’s acceptable. And safer….just not as much fun).
Check out the following lists of exclusives…and get ready to run!
KOTAKU (cool list of things he’d wait in line for)
SDCC BLOG (these guys are always on top of things)
And, of course, the OFFICIAL COMIC CON list.
