After all these years, audiences still like horror. Comic books, space adventures, and super heroes have had a hard time these past few years, but blood, guts, screams and nightmares have been a reliable draw for audiences. Which is why the merger of two of horror’s heavyweights is a real knockout for fans!
Jason Blum’s Blumhouse and James Wan’s Atomic Monster have combined forces to create a horror movie powerhouse! According to The Hollywood Reporter, “The two banners have worked together previously, and have the feature Night Swim in theaters Friday from Blumhouse’s longtime home Universal, where his and Wan’s combined company has a first-look deal. The pair also were behind the 2023 hit M3GAN and first partnered on the Insidious franchise in 2010.”
Audiences have been under Blum’s spell for some time, whose films include Five Nights at Freddy’s, The Exorcist: Believer, Halloween (recent trilogy), the Paranormal Activity franchise, The Purge films, and many more.
Likewise, Wan has created his own blood-soaked brand, with movies including Megan, the Insidious films, and the super-popular Conjuring universe. The combined company hopes to turn out between six to eight films each year.
Blumhouse and Atomic Monster will be separate labels with creative independence, with a three-way ownership structure. Blum will be the majority owner, with Wan and Comcast, the parent company of NBCUniversal.
