TARON EGERTON IN TALKS WITH MARVEL TO TAKE OVER THE ROLE OF WOLVERINE

While promoting his new Apple TV+ series Black Bird, the Rocketman actor confirmed that he’s met with Marvel Studios execs to discuss the possibility of portraying the role of Wolverine, the super hero in the X-Men franchise, who was previously brought to screen by Hugh Jackman.

“I’d be excited but I’d be apprehensive as well, because Hugh is so associated with the role that I’d wonder if it’d be very difficult for someone else to do it,’ he told the New York Times. “But hopefully if it does come around, they’ll give me a shot.”

Jackman shot to worldwide fame portraying the Marvel Comics character in the 2000 Fox Studios film The X-Men, and continued to fill those cigar-chomping shoes up through 2017’s R-rated “Wolverine,” where he finally put the character to rest. Now, it seems, that Marvel is keen to revive the character for a new generation, especially since Disney’s acquisition of Fox. Egerton, who got his big break in Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman: The Secret Service in 2014, has previously co-starred with Jackman in 2016’s Eddie the Eagle.
