Back to Hawkins! The biggest sensation to hit Netflix is FINALLY getting ready to drop again. STRANGER THINGS Season 4 will be split into two parts, with the first premiere on Friday, May 27, and the second on July 1. Netflix seems to want to spread out its summer viewing domination. Although it still eschews weekly episodes in favor of dropping an entire season for most of its original shows all at once, the fact that it is splitting Season 4 of its most high-profile property into two halves (like it did with Masters of the Universe) means it doesn’t want to blow its entire load on just one weekend. [Editor’s note: Just go back to weekly episodes! It works for Mandalorian and Marvel!]
Interestingly though, Marvel’s DOCTOR STRANGE 2 in the MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS also premieres in May (on May 6)… so, I guess it’s safe to say that May 2022 just got a lot STRANGER!
In an open letter to fans, series creators Matt and Ross Duffer explained their decision to split season 4 and why the time has come to end the series.
“Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things. At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons,” they wrote. “It proved too large to tell in four, but – as you’ll soon see for yourselves – we are now hurling toward our finale. With nine scripts, over eight-hundred pages, almost two years of filming, thousands of visual effects shots, and a runtime nearly twice the length of any previous season, Stranger Things 4 was the most challenging season yet. But also the most rewarding one. Everyone involved is incredibly proud of the results, and we can’t wait to share it with you.”

“There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of ‘Stranger Things,’ ” they continued. “New mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes. But first, we hope that you stay with us as we finish this tale of a powerful girl named Eleven and her brave friends, of a broken police chief and a ferocious mom, of a small town called Hawkins and an alternate dimension known only as the Upside Down.”
Sounds like spin-offs are on the way to me!
