This is big news! DC is now in the hunt for a great movie!
This news means two things: 1) DC is FINALLY getting a kick-ass super-hero movie it deserves; and 2) Joss Whedon has left the Marvel Universe. But choosing Batgirl is a good move. Why? For one, DC fans LOVE Batgirl. She’s not a super-powered being, but rather, she’s a character in the mold of Joss’ legendary Buffy character. And another reason this is so good: Joss loves women’s stories. That’s his schtick. He was a Women’s Studies student in college. His best creations are almost all women (Mal Firefly is an exception to this rule).
If DC is serious about fixing it’s wayward cinematic universe, this is definitely a step in the right direction. PLUS, the Joss army will show up in hordes — not to mention they’ll “social media” the heck out of this.
According to Variety: “Whedon is nearing a deal to write, direct, and produce an untitled Batgirl pic for Warner Bros. as part of its DC Extended Universe.”
