Back in 1999, a little bitty film called The Blair Witch Project convinced half of America that it was actually a collection of lost video tapes from a group of friends who had gone missing after venturing into the woods in search of the legendary Blair Witch. At a cost of just $60,000, the film made an astonishing $248 million, spawning a poorly received sequel (See: “Horrific Memories for Director Joe Berlinger“). Here we are, 16 years later, and the #TheWitchIsBack….this sequel captures the tone and feel of the original (but with less “shaky camera!”)
This past summer, Blair Witch paid a surprise visit to San Diego Comic-Con, masquerading as a brand-new horror film called The Woods. When fans found out it was actually a sequel to The Blair Witch Project, they were stoked!
There were enough scary noises in the woods, and “BOO!” moments to keep us happy–and to top it off, we saw it last night with one of the film’s stars, WES ROBINSON. He plays the character of Lane, an oddball character who might possibly be the most interesting character in the film.
Here’s Wes talking with Frye Guy (@ConGuyJim) after the film:
After the film ended, a fan stood up and announced to the crowd that Wes was in the theater. This is what happened then:
Our good friend, photographer BRADLEY EVERETT YOUNG, produced an awesome photo shoot with Wes Robinson, Corbon Reid and James Allen McCune from The Blair Witch. You can check it out here. And go give Brad a follow — his program “Dream Loud” is trying to remind everyone of the importance of Art Programs In Schools.
