Sci-fi moms are tough. They raise super-heroes, fight galactic empires, and occasionally make you “look at the flowers” (Carol!). In other words, they’ve got the hardest job out there. Today, we celebrate moms everywhere — who have the TOUGHEST jobs anywhere — with this list of the toughest moms in Sci-Fi. In no particular order:
1. CAROL from The Walking Dead. She’s the one character on The Walking Dead that I would never want to go up against. Carol’s saved the lives of everyone on the show (more than once!), and she does all the hard things that no one else can do. She’s a mom to everyone. Don’t cross Carol.
2. PRINCESS / GENERAL LEIA: She never really seemed like the damsel-in-distress type. When her planet was destroyed, her response was: “We have no time for our sorrows now.” Wow. That’s harsh. Years later, she’s one of the leaders of the resistance with one main goal: Spanking her son! He’s been very, very bad….and momma’s coming! Can’t wait to see her next year!
3. MOM FROM POLTERGEIST: JoBeth Williams plays Diane Freeling, the mom who has to rescue her daughter after she’s kidnapped by evil spirits. She may be scared, but she doesn’t show it — she’s out to kick some Poltergeists in the pants.
4. FRIGGA, THOR’S MOM: The Asgardian women are a hardy lot, brandishing swords as quickly as their men-folk. Frigga has two boys that she loves dearly, although both of them seem to bring on trouble of galactic proportions. As the queen of Asgard, she knows how to fight.
5. RIPLEY, from ALIENS. Sigourney Weaver set the bar so high, all sci-fi heroines are measured by her greatness. And although she may not be a mom to Newt in the biological sense, she “adopted” Newt and protected her like her own. Which brings us to our next mother on the list…
6. THE ALIEN QUEEN. She may be one of the most deadly villains ever, but there’s no denying: you don’t mess with her babies!
7. MARTHA KENT. She raised (and punished) the most powerful being on the planet, all that while keeping a farm running after the untimely death of her husband (by a heart attack!!! Not a stupid tornado!). She was one of the best parts about the recent Batman v Superman.
8. MOLLY WEASLY. We love when she goes after Bellatrix Lestrange, protecting her family like only a mother can do. When push comes to shove, Molly is the mom we’d want on our side.
9. DANA SCULLY….from X-Files. Yeah, baby, Scully doesn’t suffer fools and she ain’t about to take no flak. She’s had to face off against aliens, werewolves, slimy monsters and tons of cigarette smoke, all while having a son, William. It’s a complicated mother/son relationship, to be sure, one that promises to get much more airtime in the (hopefully) next season of the X-Files!
10. SARAH CONNOR. There’s no way this list would be complete with the baddest of the bad-asses, Sarah Connor. She’s the fiercest mom ever to grace our cineplexes–saving the world and training her son to be the man he should be.

AGREED! Ha ha, yeah, Will Wheaton is enough to drive any mom to drink. Maybe that’s where she was the second season!
