This year’s Comic Con is hosting some pretty amazing animation panels and celebrations, not the least of which is the 40th Anniversary of Industrial Light and Magic, or ILM as it’s called. For those who may not know, ILM is the special effects company that George Lucas created way back in the mid-70s to produce all the special effects for his new film he was working on, Star Wars. It went on to become the premier special effects house for such films as Raiders of the Lost Ark, the Star Trek Films, Jurassic Park, and just about every spectacular film since. It basically changed the industry.
In addition to the ILM retrospective, we’ll get a look at the lives and influence of animation greats Chuck Jones and Bob Clamped, presented by their daughters. There’s also panels about Disney, Pixar and Avatar: The Last Airbender.
