STAR WARS CELEBRATION DAY 2 – DROID RACING, ALIEN BUILDING, AND THE EPISODE IX TRAILER and (boring) PANEL

It’s hard to imagine a more energized crowd, pumped up by the promise of stars, the promise of title announcements, and the absolute promise of a new teaser trailer. And when it all came down to it, the mega-watt Episode IX Panel was–for all intents and purposes–worth the wait. I cried just like everyone else when we saw that trailer, and I cheered when THE EMPEROR himself came out and commanded that we “roll” the trailer again. Those were genuinely thrill-inducing moments, and worth the price of admission. Don’t believe me?… check it out right here:

I did enjoy that panel (especially Anthony Daniels and Billy Dee Williams!)…. and no matter how much I love the three new-generation characters of Rey, Poe, and Finn, they had the misfortune of starring in the last three pictures of a saga that is loved mainly for it’s central characters–Luke, Han, and Leia….. the classic characters are what we pay money for…. and that trailer promises a fond if bittersweet farewell to them.

“We’ve passed on all we know,” said the voice of Luke Skywalker as the trailer opened on Daisy Ridley’s Rey, standing in a vast sand plain with her light saber. “A thousand generations within you now.” And so begins the last chapter.

Warming the hearts of everyone who heard him, C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels—who has now appeared in all nine films of the Skywalker saga—described his alter ego as his best friend. “I would genuinely want a best friend who cared for me as much as Threepio does,” he said. Wouldn’t we all??? Love you, Threepio!

As far as the rest of the day went, check out these photos. The floor was jumping with activity, and fans–completely jazzed by that trailer–had the best time ever. Check it out:
