The Con Guy hit the high desert over Memorial Day weekend, and we found more than cactus and sand (although, to be fair, we did find lots of that). We headed out to the one-day Comic Con Palm Springs MAYHEM. It’s a one-day event that serves as the preview for the larger August 22-26 Comic Con Palm Springs. Check out our video re-cap here below.
CCPS May-Hem had everyone’s favorite nightmare, Robert Englund of The iconic Nightmare on Elm Street series. Back in the land of the living (sort of), they also had Matt Ryan, as the demon hunter from the CW and Animated series of Constantine. And even though we really loved the content of the panel, we’ve got a suggestion: PLEASE put up a tent/tarp or anything that can shield the sun. That SoCal desert can fry your brain if you’re not careful.
For just a one-day event, there was a lot crammed into that convention center. The full Comic Com Palm Springs promises to have even more come August. And we gotta tell ya — the Con Guys don’t mind the fact that there’s a huge casino right outside the convention hall. It’s the Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa at 32-250 Bob Hope Drive
Rancho Mirage, CA 92270.
We checked out a few other things while we were there.
PS SFX ACADEMY & WORKSHOP
For a Hollywood makeup artist, heading to the desert can be a risky thing. I mean, let’s face it — there may be some awe-inspiring vistas out there, but there’s not much in the way of “steady makeup work.” That’s why special Guest Jaremy Aiello – Emmy Award winning makeup artist for “The Walking Dead” was stoked to be talking with so many zombie fans. Definitely check out his Facebook page for all kinds of cool stuff.
JEFF WINSTEAD — THE ALTERNATE
Thrust into an alternate reality, superpowered celebrity Mettle (the world’s only super-being) finds himself stranded on an Earth littered with superhumans, including a stronger, smarter, and more heroic version of himself…Metalman!
