Universal released their new MUMMY teaser today. Watch it here.
Some people are going crazy over it, but not me. I wasn’t overwhelmed. I wasn’t even “whelmed.” Even Tom Cruise (with his new puffy face) can’t save this teaser for me. The full trailer comes out Sunday — hopefully that will be better. Don’t get me wrong — I’m not necessarily saying this is a bad teaser. It just looks like a retread of the older Brandon Frasier films…. with less humor.
And one more question……. sooooo, the Mummy’s a female now? (I know, I know, I could easily have have said “The Mummy’s a mommy.”). Interesting.
Universal is in the midst of trying to create a successful “shared universe” for all their classic monsters—the mummy, Dracula, Frankenstein’s monster, and so on…. I love those classic monsters. This trailer didn’t bring to mind the classic Mummy at all. Perhaps that was intentional. Regardless, my fingers are still crossed.
