If the hysteria is to be believed, it sounds like the Force might not be as strong as hoped. According to reports, Disney execs ain’t too thrilled with initial test screenings of Star Wars Rogue One. It’s a bit dark and seems too much like a straight-up war film. Director Gareth Edwards, of Godzilla fame, is gonna have a busy summer molding his Star Wars Story.
A new report is coming out of the LucasFilm camp that director Gareth Edwards’ spinoff Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is in serious ‘crisis mode’. Apparently, Disney is panicked after poor test screenings. Now, extensive and very expensive reshoots are demanded, and will take place throughout the summer. No one from Disney nor Lucasfilm have confirmed these rumors at this time.

Much of the cast and director Gareth Edwards will regroup in mid-June for another round of shooting. The move is happening after execs screened the film and felt it was tonally off with what a “classic” Star Wars movie should feel like. The pic has not yet been tested before audiences, but one source describes the cut as having the feel of a war movie.
The goal of the reshoots will be to lighten the mood, bring some levity into the story and restore a sense of fun to the adventure.
Also, there’s word that perhaps a young Han Solo, aka Alden Ehrenreich, will make an appearance.
There has been much speculation that the movie will take a darker turn and Darth Vader will appear as the Emperor’s chief enforcer. It is also believed that a young Han Solo will make a cameo appearance. Page Six exclusively revealed earlier this month that Alden Ehrenreich has landed the coveted part to play the young Solo, a role made famous by Harrison Ford.
Disney and Lucasfilm aren’t gonna’ risk this multi-billion dollar franchise, and we’re not sure these reports are 100 percent accurate. Giant tentpole movies ALWAYS have re-shoots….heck, it’s written into the actors’ contracts. If Lucasfilm and Disney has asked for some reshoots to “shape” the tone of the film, that makes me think they’re being VEEEEERRRY careful to get this film just right. It’s not time to panic. Yet.
